Why Skin Problems Are So Common Here

Sriperumbudur and the surrounding areas experience prolonged heat and humidity for most of the year. Sweat, dust, and warm temperatures create a perfect environment for skin bacteria and fungi to thrive.

1. Fungal Infections (Ringworm / Tinea)

The most common skin complaint in our OPD. They appear as circular, itchy, scaly patches — on the groin, feet, or body.

Treatment: Antifungal creams applied consistently for 2–4 weeks. Do not stop early — incomplete treatment causes recurrence.

Prevention: Keep skin dry, change into fresh clothes after sweating, avoid sharing towels.

2. Prickly Heat (Miliaria)

Blocked sweat ducts during summer cause tiny red bumps and burning sensation on the neck, back, and chest. Treat with calamine lotion, cool baths, and keeping the area dry.

3. Acne

Excess humidity increases oil production, making acne worse. Topical retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, or salicylic acid for mild to moderate cases. Avoid over-cleansing — it worsens oiliness.

4. Hyperpigmentation

Daily sunscreen (SPF 30+, PA+++) is non-negotiable. Topical agents like kojic acid, niacinamide, and tranexamic acid reduce pigmentation over 8–12 weeks.

5. Contact Dermatitis

Rashes from soap, cheap jewellery, synthetic fabrics, or hair dye. Identify and remove the trigger; apply a topical corticosteroid cream for the rash.
